TE KĀROHIROHI – Towards New Horizons: Considerations for Responsible Management Education Conference
The 3rd PRME Australia/New Zealand Forum, the annual meeting of regional PRME signatories, was held 18-21 November at the Waikato-Tainui College for Research and Development in Hopuhopu, New Zealand. In addition to sessions discussing the role of responsibility in management education, the Forum, co-hosted by the Waikato-Tainui College for Research and Development and the University of Waikato and the PRME Secretariat, featured prominently the theme of indigenous business education.
In the current academic environment, corporate responsibility and sustainability have entered but not yet become embedded in the mainstream of business-related education. The Principles for Responsible Management Education are therefore a timely global call for business schools and universities worldwide to gradually adapt their curricula, research, teaching methodologies and institutional strategies to the new business challenges and opportunities.
The agenda integrated diverse cultural perspectives and disciplinary fields to discuss four specific but necessarily inter-related themes for this conference. The four themes included:
- Indigenous Business and Responsible Management: Māori Perspectives
- Environmental responsiveness
- Social equity in stability
- Ethical practices
Last year's 2nd PRME Australia/New Zealand Forum took place at Griffith Business School in Brisbane, Australia. In 2011, the University of New South Wales - Australia School of Business in Sydney hosted the 1st PRME Australia/New Zealand Forum. This year's meeting is supported by the PRME Australasia Chapter, which is assisted by the University of New South Wales - Australian School of Business and other institutions in the region.
