Achievements Curriculum Integration in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

ABS is the national representative body for 117 UK Business Schools and has been committed and active in encouraging the inclusion of corporate responsibility, ethics and sustainability into the teaching, research and organisational behaviour of our member schools. This has been achieved by:

1) Including corporate responsibility, ethics and sustainability into the UK's National Subject Benchmarks for Business and Management at both Undergraduate and Masters levels. These benchmarks are used by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in the national quality assurance of all UK Universities and Business Schools. (See: www.qaa.ac.uk for details)

2) Jonathan Slack is also Chair of the European Quality Link (EQUAL) organisation, which has twenty members and collectively represents over 2,000 business schools worldwide, 150 major corporations and 150,000 practicing managers. Jonathan has led the development and recent publication of EQUAL Guidelines on Sustainability www.efmd.org/images/stories/efmd/downloadables/EQUAL_guidelines_Sustainability.pdf

3) Regular reporting and show casing of corporate responsibility and sustainability developments in our member business schools (see our Media Bulletins and Pillars of the Sustainable Economy Reports) on our website: www.the-abs.org.uk

4) Making Sustainability the main theme of our last two Annual Conferences.

5) Including coverage of CSR and Sustainability into our own Executive Development Programmes for Deans and other senior staff. We have six programmes of our own and three others with partners, including the International Dean's Programme run jointly with the European Foundation for Management Development (efmd).

Achievements Research Development in the Field of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

1) ABS is a founding member in the UK Government's Corporate Social Responsibility Academy, chaired by CEO of Shell. Other corporate members included Business in the Community, British Chambers of Commerce and the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.

2) ABS was represented by Jonathan Slack on the Board of the UK's Chartered Management Institute's research project on Greening Management, leading to the production of the 2009 Report 'Lean & Green - Leadership for a low carbon future'. See www.managers.org.uk for details.
